Get Sky Sports and BT Sport in one Package – Virgin Media promises £426 saving

Virgin Media are offering a £436 saving with this Sky Sports and BT Sport package. The claim is in comparison to joining Sky for a similar package. We take a look at the details and find out which is the best deal for both Sky Sports and BT Sport….

Virgin Media

In an ever competitive market providers are falling over each other in offering incentives for new customers. The Sports market is one of the most hotly contested and as a result there are new deals emerging every week. However, the beginning of the football season is generally the best time of the year for the biggest savings on all things sport. Bring forth Virgin Media with their latest deal which is definitely worth considering. See deal here »

Virgin Media’s latest offering combines BT Sport in Ultra HD for your 4K telly (if you have one) and Sky Sports with the HD version of all the channels thrown-in free for 12 months.

Along with the sports channels you also get 240 other channels and 100mb fibre broadband. There’s also the added sweetener of free weekend calls and – as with other providers we should add – line rental is inclusive in the broadband price.

Compare packages best for Sky Sports and BT Sport

Lets take a look at the saving claim made by Virgin Media. The statement reads “Watch all the football on Sky Sports and BT Sport for up to £436 less than Sky”.

Breakdown with Sky’s latest offer:
Sky Sports
Sky Entertainment = £15pm
Sky Sports Pack = £23pm
HD pack = £4pm
Sky Broadband Superfast = £27pm
BT Sport (direct with BT) = £20pm
Total = £89 per month

The Maths:
If we take the (£89) per month you would pay Sky for a similar a service, minus the (£65) per month charged by Virgin – we can see that there is a £24 difference. Sky contract is for 18 months, so if we multiply 24 by 18 it does come to the £432 figure stated. However, Virgin’s contract is for 12 months and the figure has been worked out over 18 months. So then lets look at the out-of-contract pricing, in other-words, the price you would pay after your contract / offer is up. While Sky’s price for their package would jump to £114 per month after 18 months, Virgin’s would be £110 per month after 12 months. Either-way, you are free to renegotiate your subscription costs or switch to another provider at the end of your contract.

How about BT?

BT’s equivalent package is £85.99 rising to £104.99 after the 18 month contract applicable. However, you would need to pay around £7 more each month to access BT Sports in 4K UHD. Elsewhere in the package, you get broadband speeds of around 67mb for this price and free weekend calls. Compare this package below »
