As mentioned you also get Sky’s entry level package TV pack Sky Entertainment or ‘Sky Signature’ package which boasts some of the nations favorite channels such as Sky One, Discovery, History, Gold, Comedy Central Discovery and the exclusive Sky Atlantic channel. These channels are amoungst the 100 premium, 60 catch-up and hundreds of satellite channels included. (Interested in more TV packs? »). This deal also bolts on Sky’s fastest Fibre Broadband service averaging 59mb speeds and some are now able to access the fastert 140mb service (if available in your area). The £39pm Superfast braodband with Sky TV deal currently includes free off-peak calls to UK landlines and mobiles (save £90). If you live out-side of Sky’s fibre network, then you can get this deal with the slower 11mb broadband for £35 a month. See deal »
How does the monthly cost breakdown?
This Sky deal discounts both the TV and broadband elements of the package. You can also add ‘Sky Broadband Boost’ which costs an extra £5 per month for 18 months (extra benefits i.e. parental controls, limit screen time). The combined total minimum saving is £13 per month on standard pricing (or £18pm when you add the free off-peak call plan) – or a total of £324 over the 18 month contract which applies. When you also factor in the Sky Sports,Cinema and Netflix discounts – the saving can be as much increased by a further £360.
Standard price for this TV and Fibre Broadband package is normally £52 per month. With this flash sale Sky are offering the package from £39 per month. Get this deal »
How about setup costs?
The Sky TV and fibre broadband setup cost works out at just £29.95. The minimum setup cost for this deal with the slower Broadband Essential service is now also £29.95. If you need a new landline – or an old one reactivating (which normally applies if you are switching from Virgin Media) – then there’s a fee of £20 for an Open Reach engineer visit and installation.
The cost does start to mount-up if you want to land yourself yet more glamour, such as the Ultra HD format for viewing on your 4K TV. This is an add-on pack which costs an extra £10 a month. Sky Multiscreen costs another £14 a month. At the time of writing you get your first extra Q box at a reduced one-off fee of £20. So that’s £40 for the setup of two Q boxes and £49.95 in-total with Broadband included. If you then require a 2nd, 3rd and 4th ‘additional’ boxes these are £49 each (not currently available online – you need to call Sky after you’ve placed your order).
Confused? I don’t blame you! I found it makes more sense if you customise the Sky basket area yourself and play around with the different packs.
Is Sky Broadband any good?
Like most providers in the UK, Sky run their fibre broadband service via the Open Reach fixed land line network. Fibre runs up to your nearest telephone exchange and is then fed down your phone line (hence the need for a landline). It is worth noting that the line rental cost is included in the £39 per month deal price.
So how does the Sky broadband service weigh-up compared to other providers? An indication can be found in Ofcoms complaints review. Sky fairs best in the complaints department*.
