What’s included?
Included is Sky’s entry level package TV pack ‘Sky Signature’ (the new name for Sky Entertainment), which boasts some of the nations favorite channels such as Sky One, Discovery, History, Gold, Comedy Central Discovery and the exclusive Sky Atlantic channel. This deal also bolts on Sky’s ‘Broadband Superfast’ service averaging 59mb speeds. Some customers are now able to access the new Ultrafast and Gigafast services (145mb – 900mb speeds – if available in your area). If you live outside of Sky’s fibre network entirely, you can join with Sky’s standard 11mb broadband service for £42 a month alongside Sky TV. How does the monthly cost breakdown?
This Sky deal discounts both the TV and broadband elements of the package. You can also add ‘Sky WIFI Guarantee’ which costs an extra £5 per month for 18 months (extra benefits i.e. parental controls, limit screen time). The combined total minimum saving is £12 per month on standard pricing – or a total of £198 over the 18 month contract which applies. How about setup costs?
The Sky TV and fibre broadband setup cost works out at just £29.95. The minimum setup cost for this deal with the slower Broadband Essential service is now also £29.95. If you need a new landline – or an old one reactivating (which normally applies if you are switching from Virgin Media) – then there’s a fee of £20 for an Openreach engineer visit and installation.
The cost does start to mount-up if you want to land yourself yet more glamour, such as the Ultra HD format for viewing on your 4K TV. This is an add-on pack which costs an extra £12 a month. Sky Multiscreen costs another £15 a month. The discount is only applied once you add both of these packs to your basket. At the time of writing you also get your first extra Q box at a reduced one-off fee of £20. So that’s £40 for the setup of two Q boxes and £49.95 in-total with Broadband included. If you then require a 2nd, 3rd and 4th ‘additional’ boxes these are £49 each (not currently available online – you need to call Sky after you’ve placed your order).
Confused? I don’t blame you! I found it makes more sense if you customise the Sky basket area yourself and play around with the different packs.
Is Sky Broadband any good?
Like most providers in the UK, Sky run their fibre broadband service via the Openreach fixed landline network. Fibre runs up to your nearest telephone exchange and is then fed down your phone line (hence the need for a landline). It is worth noting that the line rental cost is included in the £42 per month deal price.
